Artwork collaboration: Most projects start with either a customer providing artwork in repeat for us to work from or choosing from Regal’s large archive of patterns. We work with the customer to understand scale and color needs and often request a swatch to match or a set of Pantones for the artwork.
Base cloth selection: We also discuss which of our 30+ base cloth options will be the best fit for the project. We’ve developed a variety of base cloth options so that our customers have lots of options to hit the right price point and use case. Some customers request that we make a few different patterns on the first roll of fabric so they can see what works best before ordering in bulk.
Honing in on perfection: We’ll run a few trials internally until we’re satisfied with color, then send a strike-off to the customer. When the customer approves the art, color, size, and base cloth, we can move forward to production.
Production: Regal is set up in the US for short run custom print production, usually jobs under 1,000 yds. We also have the same set up available in China which helps us complete larger jobs and faster turnarounds overseas while maintaining the expert color matching our customers require.
“We’ve gotten to be part of some really interesting projects: a futon cover for a championship-winning pro sports team, a rock star’s face in repeat on a sofa slip cover, graffiti art versions of iconic cartoons, a custom horse’s head print for ae pillow to go with the custom drawn cow print chair for a boutique hotel, and lots of fun projects where we’ve converted existing Regal designs to the right cloth for the right scenario. Sometimes that means upleveling a print for a higher end manufacturer, sometimes it means moving something original conceived for upholstery over to a cloth more suitable for window, table-top, or bedding” – Scott Kahan, Director of Product at Regal Fabrics.
